LOST S6 IT WORKED AU
Richard gets the first bullet when he refuses to tell Sawyer where to go. The last thing he says is, “I can’t die, James. You know I can’t.” Any other time Sawyer would have shot him just to see if it was true but the second Richard is down, he stops existing.
“Anyone else?!”
They’re too scared. Even Miles, who kneels over Juliet’s body behind him.
One of them steps up, hands up in surrender. “I’ll take you… but… even if she comes back… it won’t be her.”
Sawyer thinks about that as much as Richard lying dead on the ground. “You first.” He hands the gun to Miles. “Anyone tries to stop us, you shoot them, Ennis.”
He’s breathing fast, sweating profusely. “Jim…”
“You don’t have to shoot anybody, Ennis,” Sawyer says so only he can hear. “They’re already scared of me, know I’ll do anything.”
“I already know you’ll do anything.”
“So are you going to try and stop me, too?”
Miles swallows hard and then shakes his head. He looks down at Juliet between them, focuses. Hears only screams. Come on, you sonofabitch. “No,” he says, the gun uncomfortable in his hand. He tightens his grip around it. “All the way, boss.”
Before picking up Juliet’s body Sawyer caresses her forehead. There’s blood everywhere on her, dirt and soot and ash, her pink shirt turned crimson. Her head hangs back and Sawyer looks on her with a smile.
They go through tunnels and darkness. Juliet only showed him one of the tunnels. She took an ax and broke through their home in the Barracks and said: thousands of years. The Island is probably older than God Himself. There were hundreds of them lining the island the way the trains line city. They found a pool, its waters pure and green, and he’d already begun undressing her when she laughed and pulled away from him, “They say it has healing properties.” Good, he told her, he had a nasty injury from working all day and could use a relaxing fix it swim. Juliet made a face, “Think a little more absurd than that.” After that Sawyer left the pools alone. They stored extra goods down there, just in case. Always just in case. Then Little Ben came back to life.
They were at one of those pools now. Sawyer didn’t wait to be told what to do. He entered it, her body floating when he rested her on the surface. The water around her turned pink as it washed her of the blood. Sawyer pushed her under.
Miles calls him a few times after nothing happens but Sawyer doesn’t listen. Then the water begins to ripple, Sawyer begins to smile and cry. “Come on, baby. Come on.” There’s a light underneath them and then splashing, her body convulsing. Sawyer holds on. Dust falls on their shoulders and everything shakes.
“What have you done…” the Other says helplessly. “Get her out of there.”
Sawyer doesn’t listen. He waits and waits, the entire cavern could topple over him and he’d stay. And then everything became quiet, nothing shook and the light disappeared. He lifts her up to the surface, clean and smooth. She begins to cough.
“It worked,” Sawyer says exasperated. He cups her cheek, pats her gently. “It worked… it worked…”
“She’ll be one of them,” the Other warns. “She’s claimed.”
Her eyes open.
